A deal has been agreed for Kevin Muscat to return to Rangers, this time as manager.
The 52-year-old will become the next boss of the Ibrox club after a lengthy process which saw the likes of Steven Gerrard and Danny Rohl pull out of contention following interviews. By the time Rohl withdrew, Muscat appeared to be the preferred candidate anyway.
A per Rangers Review, the Australian will sign a long-term contract with the club he served as a player for one season, with a seven-figure compensation fee agreed with his current club, Shangai Port. He will see out the Chinese Super League season, which runs until November 22 and is in with a shout of a second successive title.
Former teammate Neil McCann is likely to join as assistant manager and could even take charge in the interim until Muscat arrives. However, under-19s coach Steven Smith is taking the team for tomorrow’s home clash with Dundee United.
