Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Thursday lashed out at the government over its economic policies, stating that the Indian economy is “dead” due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s missteps.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Gandhi attributed the economy’s downfall to several factors, including Adani-Modi Partnership, Demonetisation and Flawed GST, Failed “Assemble in India” Initiative, MSMEs Wiped Out, and Farmers “Crushed.”

Gandhi alleged that the close relationship between the government and billionaire Gautam Adani has led to the destruction of India’s economy, benefiting only a select few. He also criticised the government’s decision to demonetise high-denomination currency notes and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST), saying these policies have had a devastating impact on the economy.
Gandhi questioned the effectiveness of the government’s “Assemble in India” initiative, which he claimed had failed to boost the economy.
The Congress leader expressed concern over the plight of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), which he said have been severely affected by the government’s policies.
Gandhi also highlighted the struggles faced by farmers, who he believes have been crushed by the government’s policies.
The Congress leader further accused the government of destroying the future of India’s youth by failing to create jobs. “Modi has destroyed the future of India’s youth because there are no jobs,” he said. This statement underscores the growing concerns about unemployment and the need for the government to address this pressing issue.
Gandhi’s comments come in response to US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks describing India and Russia as “dead economies.” Gandhi said that Trump’s statement reflects a global truth that only the Indian government refuses to acknowledge. “I’m glad that President Trump has stated a fact… The entire world knows that the Indian economy is a dead economy,” Gandhi said.
