QUINCY (WGEM) – Quincy Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 931 Chestnut St., Saturday night.
There was a heavy fire in a two-story house that was wooden framed, abandoned and boarded up, reported Assistant Chief Thurman A. Munger.
As they were putting out the fire, the firefighters on the scene called for additional backup in putting out the fire. They could gain no entry due to the fire and the structural conditions, according to Munger.
Additional crews put out the fire from the east side, west side and rear of the structure, and supplying addition manpower to the hose lines and ladder, Munger reported.
The firefighters then worked to extinguish putting out the fire in the attic with assistance from the aerial ladder and the deck gun, according to Munger.
Munger reported fire crews were hampered by downed power lines, which were arcing and creating a danger zone at the time, limiting access to the structure on fire.
Munger also reported firefighters’ access was further hampered by the windows that were boarded up with plywood.
Quincy police officers were on scene the entire time, assisting with traffic control, the following investigation and interviews, according to Munger.
City of Quincy Central Services were also on scene and assisted by spreading salt and cinders on the roadway where the ice had formed, Munger reported.
QFD and Quincy Police Department are investigating the cause and origin of the structure fire. The investigation is still ongoing, Munger stated.
