
MANILA, Philippines — In celebration of World Cities Day 2025 on Friday, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) designated 58 cities as members of its Creative Cities Network (UCCN). Two Philippine cities were named on the Unesco list — Dumaguete City under the Literature category and Quezon City under the Film category.
According to the Unesco-Philippine National Commission, these were the first designations in their respective fields in the country.Quezon City joined fellow Southeast Asian city Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam as Southeast Asia’s first Creative Cities of Film, while Dumaguete and the Indonesian capital Jakarta were among the first Creative Cities of Literature in the region.
