A 27-year-old man from Queensland has been charged over the alleged torture of a seven-week-old baby.
In March, a seven-week-old baby boy was taken to Queensland’s Children’s Hospital, presenting in an unresponsive condition.
Hospital staff providing urgent care for the newborn allegedly found injuries consistent with “prolonged and repeated physical abuse”.
Officers were notified, and as a result, the child was removed from the care of a 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman.
Queensland Police launched an investigation that has resulted in the man being charged with multiple offences, including torture.
On Monday, police confirmed a 27-year-old Forest Lake man had been charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of torture.
He was refused police bail and is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on 16 June 2025.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Joshua Brewer praised the efforts undertaken by investigating officers.
“This was a deeply confronting matter for CPIU (Child Protection and Investigation Unit) detectives to undertake, given it involved a vulnerable infant sustaining serious injuries,”Acting Senior Sergeant Brewer said.
“Detectives worked with care and determination to take appropriate action to remove the child from harm.”
“This investigation highlights the importance of community diligence – if members of the public are aware of or suspect child abuse, they are encouraged to report it to police.”
