Qatar continues to shine as world’s best airlineEmma KellyThe West AustralianWed, 18 June 2025 10:45AM

Qatar Airways has taken the top spot in the Skytrax World Airline Awards as the world’s best airline for a ninth time.

Qantas has returned to the top 20, jumping 10 places from last year’s 24 to 14 in 2025, as well as being named best airline in Australia/Pacific for the second time.

The Skytrax awards are the world’s largest airline passenger satisfaction survey, voted for by airline passengers and involving more than 325 airlines.

The 2025 World Airline Awards, announced at this week’s Paris Air Show, reveal a familiar top five for the world’s best airline, with Qatar followed by five-times winner Singapore Airlines (SIA), then Cathay Pacific, Emirates and All Nippon Airways. Cathay climbed from fifth in 2024 to third this year, pushing Emirates and ANA down a place.

In addition to claiming the top award, Qatar won awards for the best airline in the Middle East, world’s best business class and the best business class airline lounge.

Singapore Airlines won awards for the best airline in Asia, world’s best cabin crew and world’s best first class. Emirates and Air France took second and third place, respectively, in the first class award.

When it comes to the world’s best business class, Qatar was followed by SIA and Cathay Pacific. Virgin Atlantic has the world’s best premium economy, followed by Japan Airlines and Emirates. When it comes to the back of the aircraft, Cathay Pacific claimed the world’s best economy class, followed by Qatar and SIA.

AirAsia retained its title as the world’s best low-cost airline, an award it has won every year since 2010. Scoot was named the world’s best long-haul low-cost airline.

In the best regional airlines category, for airlines that primarily operate domestic and/or international flights up to six hours, Bangkok Airways took top honours, with Virgin Australia in second place. Virgin Australia was also recognised as the best regional airline in the Australia/Pacific region and having the best airline staff service in the region.

The world’s most family friendly airlines are Lufthansa, followed by British Airways and Emirates, while EVA Air is the cleanest, followed by ANA and Cathay Pacific.
