JAKARTA – Remembering today, three years ago, January 4, 2023, in the form of a survey, the Indonesian Political Indicator revealed that public satisfaction with the performance of President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) government was still high. Jokowi’s total received a figure of 71.3 percent who said they were satisfied.

Previously, the Jokowi government during the two-term period was often tested by various trials. The biggest challenge was the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The presence of the pandemic has caused panic throughout Indonesia. Indonesia is in danger of falling into the abyss of recession.

Jokowi was able to fulfill his duties as Indonesia’s first leader – 2014 to 2019. However, this condition did not satisfy Jokowi. He returned to the scene of political protest during the 2019 presidential election.

He believes that his programs from the first term must be continued. Jokowi is also convinced that all Indonesians still love him as the president of Indonesia. The results are brilliant. Jokowi maintained his power during the second term.

Instead of his two terms running smoothly, Jokowi’s government was inundated with criticism. Moreover, when Jokowi started getting into politics. Jokowi wants to eliminate opposition discourse in government. He invites his political opponents, Prabowo Subianto, to join the government.

Not to mention that ministers considered to have good achievements are replaced by Jokowi. The criticism of Jokowi is still not dry, but new problems have just emerged. Indonesia was then hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Wuhan virus didn’t just cause panic and death. But it also helped destroy the Indonesian economy. Economic activity is disrupted. The government is also criticized in waves for its inability to break the chain of transmission of the corona virus.

The government’s slow movement also appears to be having a significant impact. Indonesia appears to be falling into the abyss of recession. A nightmare created by the pandemic in other countries.

“According to data from three international institutions, in 2020, almost all countries are in recession, with growth from -5 to approaching -8 percent. Geopolitical tension in the United States (US) will affect the global economy and politics as it is the largest country today. Attention must be paid to it.”

“The recovery will slow down a little. Why? because the development of COVID-19 in Indonesia has not reached its peak, it continues to increase. Day by day rapid tests are carried out, it is likely that the number of positive people will increase,” said Bank Indonesia (BI) Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti as quoted by lamankompas.com, July 20, 2020.

All kinds of problems that arose in Jokowi’s two-term government have left their mark. Many consider that public satisfaction with the performance of Jokowi’s two-term government has declined compared to the first period.

In fact, this does not match the results of the opinion poll conducted by the Indonesian Political Indicator. The investigative agency revealed that the results of a survey on public satisfaction with Jokowi remained high on January 4, 2023.

Jokowi received a public satisfaction rating of 71.3 percent. Others who were dissatisfied made up only 23.6 percent, while those who were not at all satisfied made up 3.5 percent. The discontent was on average due to the increase in prices of basic goods until Jokowi did not side with the common people.

The indicator also confirms that the survey was carried out from December 1 to 6, 2022. The method used is multistage random sampling. The Indicator then conducted face-to-face interviews with 1,220 respondents from diverse backgrounds.

“(So) about 71.3 percent of national citizens are quite or very satisfied with Jokowi’s performance as president,” said Burhanudin Muhtadi, executive director of Indonesian Political Indicators, in a virtual press conference cited by lamankompas.com, January 4, 2023.
