ILOILO CITY — What was initially scheduled as a command conference turned into a surprise drug testing for top officials of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) on Friday.
Around 50 police officials, including members of the PRO-6 command group, regional and provincial staff, city and provincial directors and deputy chiefs, underwent drug testing at the regional headquarters in Camp Martin Delgado. PRO-6 spokesman LtCol. Arnel Solis said the random test was initiated by newly installed PRO-6 regional director BGen. Josefino Ligan, who also took the test alongside his subordinates. It was the first round of drug testing under his leadership, which officially began on June 21, 2025.
The specimens collected will be analyzed by the Regional Forensic Unit. Solis did not give a timeline for when the results would be released.
“This drug testing will continue because that is the instruction of the regional director that our higher-ups should do the same under their respective offices,” Solis said. He added that the command remains confident of negative results, emphasizing that the PNP leadership consistently warns its personnel against involvement in illegal drugs.
“The main reason why we conducted this is to ensure that there is no member of the police force who engages in illegal drugs,” he said. Solis said if any personnel would test positive in the confirmatory test, an internal investigation will follow. Those found guilty of illegal drug use could face administrative charges which may lead to dismissal from service.
