ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — With early voting underway in the nation’s most-watched congressional special election, President Donald Trump is traveling to Georgia’s 14th Congressional District on Thursday.
According to the White House, President Trump is expected to travel to Rome, Georgia, where he will deliver a speech on affordability and the economy, followed by a local business visit.
“President Trump’s visit to Rome will highlight the work this administration has already done to raise real wages and accelerate economic growth – and the work the administration will continue to do to continue delivering results for Georgians,” a White House official said.
The president has endorsed Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit Attorney Clay Fuller for the March 10 special election to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene in Congress.
An initial race of 22 qualified candidates has now dwindled to 18, with Republican Larry Hilley’s withdrawal Saturday being the latest. Last week, James Marty Brown withdrew from the race and endorsed Sen. Colton Moore.
Jared Craig and Christian Hurd both dropped out of the race this month. Both endorsed Fuller.
Due to the large number of candidates, a runoff election is almost certain, and this has been set for April 7. Whoever wins the runoff will officially fill out the remainder of Greene’s term in Congress until next January.
This is how the election to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene will play out
Whoever wins the November general election for the seat — whether it’s the candidate who wins the remainder of Greene’s term or another candidate — will be sworn in in January 2027 for the full two-year term.
However, if the winner wants to run in the nationally watched 2026 midterm elections, they will have to run in the May 19 state primary. If a second round is necessary, it will take place on June 16.
Then, it’s time for the general elections on November 3, the winner of which will serve in Congress for a full two-year term. A second round will take place on December 1, if necessary.
