Dehradun: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday addressed a special session of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly held to mark 25 years of the state’s formation. Calling it a moment of pride for every citizen, she saluted the people who struggled and made sacrifices for the creation of Uttarakhand.
The President said Uttarakhand is a land of spirituality and courage where traditions of devotion and bravery flow together. She praised the state’s contribution to the armed forces, mentioning that the Kumaon and Garhwal Regiments have long represented the state’s brave legacy. “The youth of Uttarakhand are always eager to serve in the Indian Army and protect the nation,” she said.

She said Uttarakhand has improved on many parameters of the Human Development Index due to consistent developmental efforts. Expressing happiness, she noted that literacy rates have gone up, women’s education has expanded, and maternal and infant mortality rates have declined.
Appreciated Dhami’s government
Commending the Dhami government’s efforts, she said the state has made remarkable progress in improving healthcare facilities and promoting women’s empowerment. “The government’s policies have strengthened women’s roles in society and contributed to the state’s inclusive development,” she added.
Urging members to focus on service rather than political rivalry
The President also called upon lawmakers to rise above politics and work together for the welfare of people. She said being a public representative is a great responsibility and privilege. “When legislators work sincerely for the welfare of people, a strong bond of trust is formed between them and the citizens,” she said, urging members to focus on service rather than political rivalry.
Congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team
During her 25-minute speech, President Murmu also congratulated the Indian women’s cricket team for their recent World Cup victory, saying their success has brought pride to the entire nation. She was welcomed by Governor Gurmeet Singh, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and assembly speaker Ritu Khanduri.
Praised Lokayukta bill, UCC
Praising Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s leadership, she appreciated the state Assembly for passing key legislations such as the Lokayukta Act, Anti-Copying Act, Uniform Civil Code, and Zamindari Abolition Act. “All members of this House deserve congratulations for these historic decisions,” she remarked. Chief Minister Dhami thanked the President for her visit, calling it a proud moment for Uttarakhand and its people.
Remembering former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, under whose leadership Uttarakhand was created, President Murmu said the state has completed a successful journey of 25 years and continues to move forward with energy, passion, and determination.
