A bushfire alert has been issued for residents in Bannister, Boddington and Marradong, with DFES urging people to prepare to evacuate.
The watch and act is in place for an area bounded by Gold Mine Road, Bannister Marradong Road, Bannister Road, Pinjarra Williams Road, Pinjarra Williams Road and Siding Road.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services says there is a possible threat to lives and homes in the area, and anyone in this area should prepare to leave.
The fire was reported at 7.22am on Tuesday, with the watch and act alert issued just before 8.45am.
Four firefighting crews were at the scene by 9am, actively fighting the fire and putting in containment lines and firebreaks.
Additional crews are en route, three water bombers and a supervising aircraft are also on scene to assist ground crews.
The fire is moving in a south westerly direction and is not contained or controlled.
All roads remain open, but DFES have asked motorists to avoid the area if possible.

It should include an AM/FM radio that runs off batteries, a first aid kit, a woollen blanket, phones, protective clothing, medication and irreplaceable valuables.Decide where you will go and how you will get there. This could be with family or friends away from the fire.Keep your doors and windows closed to keep out smoke.Turn off evaporative air conditioners, but keep water running through the system if possible to prevent embers entering your home.Move flammable materials such as doormats, wheelie bins and outdoor furniture away from your home.If you plan to stay and defend ensure you are mentally and physically prepared, with protective clothing and an independent water supply.
