Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly Eddy Soeparno stressed that President Prabowo Subianto’s statement that he was not under the control of 7th President Joko Widodo was completely accurate. According to him, the constitution gives full authority to the president as head of state and head of government to act alone.
“It is the president, the head of state who is alone, who has authority and who exercises it well,” Eddy said at the Jakarta parliamentary complex, Friday (11/7).
Eddy asked that the issue of Jokowi’s control of Prabowo should no longer be exaggerated, considering that this issue was resolved directly by the president. He emphasized that the good relations between Prabowo and previous presidents were actually a positive thing in maintaining communication and exchanging state experiences.
“A good relationship is something natural and productive. But if you call it controlled, of course that’s not true,” Eddy said.
Previously, during the inauguration of the PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia petrochemical plant in Cilegon, Banten, Wednesday, June 11, President Prabowo strongly rejected the notion that his government’s policies were influenced by Jokowi.
“I am not Prabowo who is afraid of Jokowi. Prabowo is still controlled by Pak Jokowi? This does not exist,” he stressed.
Eddy believed that Prabowo’s statement emphasized the president’s position as a legal and political sovereign in accordance with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution, as well as the continuity of relations between national leaders without intervention.
