JAKARTA: President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that he is not under the control of the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). He made this statement during the inauguration of the PT Lotte Chemical Indonesia petrochemical plant in Cilegon, Banten, Thursday (11/06).
Prabowo said he had requested that Jokowi be invited to the inauguration. He believes that in recent times, an unhealthy political culture has started to develop in society.
According to the head of state, some parties tend to congratulate a leader while he is still in office, then demean him once his mandate is over.
Leaders are scattered, sought after [kesalahannya]. When he was in power, [pemimpin negara] rented. What culture is this? “We have to change this,” he said, as quoted by Tirto.
Prabowo called on the public and political elites to respect each other more, not to ridicule or belittle each other. He recalled that Jokowi had ruled Indonesia for 10 years and his services should be appreciated.
On the same occasion, Prabowo rejected the idea that he was controlled or influenced by Jokowi in the implementation of government policies. He said the narrative that he was in Jokowi’s shadow was baseless and did not correspond to reality.
The president emphasized never received a deposit from Jokowi.
Prabowo is afraid of Jokowi, Prabowo is still controlled by Jokowi, there is no such thing. “Mr Jokowi never left me anything, I have to tell you the truth,” he said.
Prabowo added that he and Jokowi had a good relationship and even respected each other. He said Indonesia’s economic achievements during the Jokowi era deserved global recognition, especially in maintaining inflation and economic growth.
That’s it, my brothers, it [Jokowi] leading after all 10 years of global recognition. Under him, inflation was pretty good, growth was good, right?
