Australian manager Ange Postecoglou has been given a rude reintroduction to life in the Premier League with a 3-0 rout to top-placed Arsenal in his maiden outing with Nottingham Forest.
The odds were always against the former Tottenham boss, who was sacked at the conclusion of last season despite leading Spurs to a drought-breaking Europa League trophy, taking on one of the league’s best sides at The Emirates just four days after securing the post.
It got harder as he lost key player Murillo to injury before a cracking volley from outside the box from Spaniard Martin Zubimendi put the visitors a goal down before half-time.
Viktor Gyökeres made it two-nil just moments after the break, and Forest never recovered, struggling to break into their attacking third.
Gunners fans showed no mercy to Postecoglou, who copped chants of being “sacked in the morning” and asked if they were “Tottenham in disguise”, a reference to Spurs’ challenges in the Premier League last season.
Zubimendi headed in a brace late in the match to cap Arsenal moving into top spot.
