Politics not my stage, says Shabnam Faria waging war on labelling

In the glamorous yet unpredictable world of Dhaka’s silver screens, few stars command attention quite like Shabnam Faria. Known for her fearless candour, the actress has once again stirred the spotlight with a heartfelt and strikingly honest social media post that shines a light not only on her personal beliefs but also on the challenges of being a public figure in Bangladesh.

Faria has long been admired for her openness, whether discussing the intricacies of her personal life, her observations on showbiz, or even her bold takes on government policies. She praises what she finds praiseworthy, criticises what she believes deserves criticism. But such honesty, she admits, often comes with its share of complications.

Drawing the line

For years, whispers have followed her, some attempting to label her as a supporter or activist of one political camp or another. Now, she has silenced the chatter with unmistakable clarity.

“I want to make it clear that I have no support for any of the political parties that currently exist in Bangladesh or have been banned recently,” she wrote. “My page is public, so whether it’s Kala Magur (black catfish), Niltimi (blue whale), Kaua (crow) or Tia (parrot) – anyone can comment there. But that does not reflect my political ideology.”

Her message was elegant yet sharp: her social media may be a stage, but politics is not.

An artist, not a politician

In the same post, Faria defined the path she envisions for herself. “I am not a political character. I am an artist,” she declared with conviction. “In the future, I want to develop myself as a social activist. I want to be a part of positive change in society. Politics is not my ‘stage’. My principle is simple: call good people good, call bad people bad, call thieves thieves, and extortionists extortionists.”

It is a philosophy that reflects both her courage and her clarity of purpose.

The price of speaking out

With charm and wit, she also opened up about the often awkward aftermath of her outspokenness. “Whatever I write on social media, after a while, I see it being printed as news! At first I laughed, then I felt embarrassed, and now I’ve entered the ‘Who cares?’ mood. But some things are not just embarrassing, they’re downright annoying — especially the attempts to drag me into political debates.”

A star who chooses substance over show

Faria, never one to shy away from cheeky humour, noted that if she were chasing attention, she could easily take the familiar route:

“I never craved being the centre of cheap gossip. If I did, I’d be busy shaking it on TikTok, flexing at the gym, and snapping those twisted mirror selfies flashing my backside. In this country, attention is the easiest thing to get — you know it, I know it. But truth is, I’m fighting through one of the toughest, most critical times of my life right now.”

Instead, she chooses depth over dazzle, substance over spectacle. And while she admits she is going through one of the most challenging phases of her personal life, her voice remains steady, strong, and refreshingly authentic.

The Shabnam Faria effect

In a film industry where many stars prefer diplomacy over directness, Shabnam Faria continues to stand apart. She is not afraid to shine a light on uncomfortable truths, nor does she hesitate to laugh at the absurdities of fame. For her admirers, this combination of grace, grit, and glamour is precisely what makes her one of Dhallywood’s most magnetic personalities.

Because in the end, Faria is not just an actress, she is a voice, a presence, and above all, an artist determined to use her platform for more than applause.
