EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – We’re learning more about the man who officials say shot two East Cleveland police officers after killing two of his relatives.
This is a story 19 News is continuing to investigate.
Court records show the suspect — Aaron Lorenzo Sharp — turned 24 years old on Friday, the day of his arrest.
19 Investigates looked into his criminal background and social media accounts to learn more about who he is.
According to court records, Sharp lived in East Cleveland at the home where the incident began.
Sharp was later arrested nearby, in the 1800 block of Sheldon Avenue, near Shaw High School.
Court records show Sharp was also arrested in 2021 for drug abuse and possession of paraphernalia in Parma.
He was found guilty of these charges in 2023 and had to pay a $1500 fine.
Records show he was also cited for traffic violations in Cleveland, including:
There are currently active warrants for Sharp.
On Friday, we reached out to a woman who’s listed as one of Sharp’s relatives.
However, when we told her why we were contacting her, she hung up.
During Friday morning’s press conference, East Cleveland’s safety director announced a member of the suspect’s family — who was fatally shot inside the house — had opened fire on police before.
Police believe Sharp fatally shot that person and another relative late last night.
East Cleveland Police Chief Reginald Holcomb tells 19 Investigates that Sharp posted on Instagram after shooting the two officers.
We’re still scrubbing social media accounts that may be associated with the suspect and will have that information as soon as it’s confirmed.
This is a continuing story; stay tuned to 19 News for the latest developments.
