Poland plans to enter the nuclear power market and wants to build two mini nuclear power plants by 2035. The idea behind this is to move away from coal as an energy source. This type of reactor was developed by an American company. Various countries are focusing on the development of mini nuclear power plants, for example the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom. Some are already in operation in China and Russia. The slump in the uranium market is over. In 2017, a pound of uranium cost only around $20, but today it costs around $70. Clean and reliable energy is needed more and more. That’s why a lot of countries are turning to nuclear energy. This is because of electrification trends, artificial intelligence, and data centers popping up everywhere.
Artificial intelligence requires the processing of enormous amounts of data. Forecasts regarding the development of energy demand by data centers vary, but there is agreement that the amount of energy required is steadily increasing across all sectors. According to the International Energy Agency, energy demand could double by 2030. According to a study by McKinsey, the electricity demand of data centers alone in Europe could even triple by 2030. Renewable energies are desirable and environmentally friendly, but they are not always available and, moreover, insufficient. This is where nuclear energy comes in. It requires uranium. Therefore, companies with uranium should be in a good position.
