New Delhi, Dec 1 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi has voiced concern over the deteriorating health condition of former Bangladesh prime minister Khaleda Zia and offered all possible help towards her recovery.
The Prime Minister’s offer of help comes even as Chinese President Xi Jinping has despatched a high-level delegation of Chinese medical specialists to Dhaka to assist in the treatment of BNP Chairperson and former PM Khaleda Zia, who is in critical condition, in the ICU of Evercare Hospital.
PM Modi said in a post on X: “Deeply concerned to learn about the health of Begum Khaleda Zia, who has contributed to Bangladesh’s public life for many years. Our sincere prayers and best wishes for her speedy recovery. India stands ready to extend all possible support, in whatever way we can.”
A Chinese delegation of five to six medical experts has been dispatched to Dhaka on behalf of Chinese President Xi Jinping, a BNP official said.
BNP secretary general, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, told reporters in Dhaka that Khaleda Zia is receiving treatment under the intensive monitoring of her doctors, and urged against creating panic through spread of misinformation.
He appealed to party leaders, activists, and the people to pray for the swift recovery of the 80-year-old ex-premier.
Earlier in the day, BNP Vice-Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan told reporters outside Evercare Hospital that Khaleda’s condition has deteriorated. “She is in a deep condition. You can say she is on ventilation. You can say she is in a very critical condition,” he said.
“There is nothing more to do except seek prayers from the whole nation.”
Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital for special treatment on Nov 23, after her multiple long-standing health complications worsened simultaneously. She has been under the care of a combined medical board of local and foreign specialists. Her family and senior BNP figures have previously discussed the possibility of transferring her abroad for advanced treatment once her condition stabilises, but doctors have said she is not currently fit to travel.
