BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has stated that the government will push for significant economic progress within four months, emphasizing the need for full commitment to drive the economy forward. He made these remarks following a meeting with the Thai Chamber of Commerce, where he and his team listened to the concerns and suggestions of private sector representatives.

Anutin explained that the government is gathering as much information as possible from the private sector before officially taking office, aiming to address issues and implement solutions swiftly once in power.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister and the Chamber of Commerce discussed a range of topics, including financial flexibility, debt burdens, interest rates, energy, exports, labor, and future opportunities for Thailand. Anutin stressed the importance of ongoing dialogue with the private sector to ensure that government policies align with business needs and to facilitate future meetings as necessary.

When asked about measures to boost economic confidence, Anutin said the government is working to remove existing obstacles and will not block opportunities unless necessary. He noted that the incoming Minister of Finance and Minister of Commerce will be tasked with making the business environment more flexible and resolving outstanding issues.

Anutin also highlighted that the Ministry of Commerce will focus on ensuring smooth and fair trade, both domestically and internationally. He said the government will work to secure the best possible benefits for Thailand, including fair agricultural prices. The administration will also seek to inject liquidity into the economy, particularly to support small and medium-sized enterprises facing bad debts and inventory problems. Anutin emphasized that government support will be targeted at businesses with a genuine commitment to production, rather than those seeking only short-term financial relief.

Regarding the four-month timeline, Anutin reiterated that the government is committed to moving forward and will not backtrack. He explained that this period is based on the timeline for dissolving parliament and the delivery of the government’s policy statement to the parliament, which will occur after the cabinet is sworn in. The government is finalizing its policy draft, making adjustments based on input from the Chamber of Commerce to ensure alignment with the private sector’s needs.

Anutin concluded by stating that improving the well-being of the people is the government’s top priority. He said he is open-minded about adopting policies from other parties or groups if they benefit the country and its citizens. Anutin stressed that the goal is for all parties to achieve a win-win outcome, with the focus on public benefit rather than individual credit. (NNT)
