The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has cautioned that moves to undermine President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration are fueled by personal ambition rather than national interest, warning that such actions could endanger Nigeria’s democratic stability.
Matawalle made the remarks on Saturday while addressing journalists at his residence in Abuja, where he condemned what he described as premature political maneuvering and internal power struggles targeted at weakening the current government.
According to him, such political scheming risks disrupting ongoing reforms, weakening national unity and slowing down the country’s recovery process.
He praised President Tinubu’s leadership approach and policy direction, noting that they are central to repositioning Nigeria for economic revival, institutional strengthening and enhanced social cohesion.
“President Tinubu has demonstrated courage and commitment in stabilising the economy and rebuilding critical institutions. Those plotting against him are driven by narrow personal interests, not the welfare of Nigerians,” Matawalle said.
He expressed strong confidence that the President would secure a resounding victory in the 2027 general election if given the opportunity to fully implement his reform agenda, citing the growing impact of government policies across the country.
The minister highlighted notable progress in the northern part of the country, particularly in governance reforms, security operations and institutional development, as evidence of the administration’s positive trajectory.
Matawalle urged Nigerians, as well as political actors, to rally behind the government’s reform programmes, stressing the need for unity, cooperation and constructive engagement.
He called on political stakeholders to embrace dialogue over division, emphasising that the nation’s collective progress must take precedence over individual political ambitions.
He also appealed to citizens to support government initiatives aimed at fostering sustainable economic growth, improving security and strengthening national cohesion.
“Instead of endless political rancour and short-term calculations, our focus should be on practical solutions that create jobs, enhance security and build stronger institutions for the benefit of all Nigerians,” he added.
