PARMA, Ohio — Pleasant Valley Elementary School’s Guys with Ties is a popular mentorship program focusing on character, life skills, etiquette (handshakes, eye contact, manners) and leadership.
They use ties as symbols of professionalism, teaching boys to be gentlemen through activities, guest speakers and community service.
The end results boost self-confidence and self-respect.
Guys with Ties is about introducing professionalism and confidence at an age-appropriate level.
As a guest speaker discussing goal setting, Parma City School District’s Superintendent Scott Hunt last month visited third-graders at the Pleasant Valley Road building.
“I had the great opportunity to speak with them about dreaming big, setting goals to reach those dreams, knowing that making mistakes is OK and part of learning and the importance of being resilient if you do fail it something,” he said.
