Northlands Primary School hosted its fourth annual Inventors’ Day Showcase this week, celebrating student creativity and innovation in recognition of National Inventors’ Day.
A spokesperson said, “The Inventors’ Day Showcase continues to reflect the school’s strong commitment to fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and innovation. New additions to this year’s showcase included an oratorical component, in which students formally presented and explained their inventions, further strengthening their communication and presentation skills.”
Reflecting on the impact of the project, Meredith Lombardo, Reading Specialist and ICT Teacher Leader, said, “This project empowered our students to think critically, take ownership of their learning, and confidently share their ideas. They developed resilience, creativity, and pride in seeing their ideas come to life.”
Minister of Education Crystal Caesar said, “It was amazing to interact with the young inventors. They were creative and quite confident. The inventions included water filters, AI-generated X-ray and traffic-light systems. It was inspiring, and I am very proud of the students and school leaders as they continue to create an environment for students to learn and be inventive.”
The spokesperson said, “Held in the school library, the two-day event featured projects on researched inventions and student-designed inventions that highlighted problem-solving skills, creativity, and the practical application of classroom learning. On Wednesday, students viewed the projects in 20-minute increments throughout the day, allowing all learners to engage with and celebrate their peers’ work. Today, the exhibit remained open for continued viewing by guests and members of the school community.
“Community judges were also invited to review and rate the students’ work, providing valuable feedback and encouragement. The school extends sincere thanks to the community members who generously served as judges and supported the continued success of this event.”
