Perth and WA weather: Spring downpour to soak city throughout weekendTegwen BescobyPerthNowTue, 2 September 2025 8:54AMCommentsComments

After enduring months of winter blues and heavy rains, Sandgropers hoping to absorb some sunshine will have to hold onto their umbrella and raincoats for another week.

Spring showers are expected to pass through the city as early as Friday, only five days into the new season.

Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson Jess Lingard told PerthNow the wet weather experienced in winter had rolled over into September, with cold fronts expected to hit the WA coast this week.

“There is a cold front arriving on Wednesday with more showers expected into the weekend too,” she said.

“Spring is a transitional season and we will flip-flop between more summery weather patterns and a few lingering winter patterns, bringing us days of warm sunshine combined with those cooler days with showers.”

The Perth region is anticipating rainfall between 8 and 25mm daily throughout Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with wind gusts forecast to reach 35km/hr.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns Friday and Saturday will also bring thunderstorms to the coast.

The rainy welcome to spring come after WA residents battled through a record-breaking winter.

Perth shivered through its coldest day in 50 years last week, with August 25 bringing a maximum of just 11.4C and hail galore.

The city’s rainfall across winter totalled 547.2mm, blowing last year’s total of 427.0mm out of the water and beating the long-term rainfall average for the first time since 1996.

Ms Lingard said the cold fronts should occur less frequently as WA continues into spring.

“Moving into spring, locals should start seeing less clouds and more sun.”

PERTH FORECAST:

Tuesday — Sunny, 10C to 20C

Wednesday — Sunny, 7C to 21C

Thursday — Partly cloudy, 9C to 20C

Friday — Showers, 10C to 19C

Saturday — Showers, 9C to 17C

Sunday — Shower, 10C to 18C
