Democratic Party Demands Action Following President Lee’s Sale, Criticizing People Power Party’s Real Estate Stance
The People Power Party explained on the 28th regarding the Democratic Party of Korea’s demand for People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok to sell his housing: “Out of the six houses owned by Representative Jang, five that are actually in use are realistically difficult to sell, and the one unused house has been listed for sale a long time ago.”
Representative Jang recently stated, “If the president sells his house, I will sell mine too.”
Park Sung-hoon, senior spokesperson of the People Power Party, met with reporters at the National Assembly that morning and said, “I understand that the unused house has been listed for sale long ago, but there have been no inquiries from buyers,” elaborating further. Park added, “The People Power Party views the real estate market not as a political tool but as an issue of substantial residential stability for ordinary citizens and normalization of the real estate market,” and stated, “If selling housing does not contribute positively to stabilizing the real estate market, this is nothing more than an event for political purposes.”
The Democratic Party demanded that day, “President Lee Jae Myung has demonstrated sincerity in selling his house. The People Power Party should respond with action, not words.” Spokesperson Kim Ji-ho stated, “President Lee Jae Myung is proving his will to normalize housing prices through action, even putting his own home up for sale,” and explained, “This is a resolution to correct the distorted real estate market structure.” Kim questioned, “Then, what is the People Power Party doing? Are they not repeating the logic of vested interests to maintain a high-end housing-centered market structure while fiercely opposing government policies?”
Kim Ji-ho asked, “Does the People Power Party only feel satisfied when housing prices rise and speculation succeeds? In particular, I ask People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok: When will you fulfill your promise to dispose of your house if the president sells his?” Kim warned, “Can the public trust the promise of a ruling party leader? Real estate policies are directly linked to people’s lives and should not be a tool for political disputes,” and added, “The Lee Jae Myung government and the Democratic Party will unwaveringly pursue the principles of normalizing housing prices, curbing speculation, and protecting actual demanders. The People Power Party should also respond with action, not words.”
