Penn State’s trajectory went from bad to worse on Saturday with the latest news on quarterback Drew Allar.
Allar took a huge hit while scrambling in the closing minutes of Penn State’s game against Northwestern at Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pa. He was seen gripping his left ankle. The senior limped off the field with trainers and did not return to the contest, which the Nittany Lions lost 22-21.

After the game, Penn State head coach James Franklin that Allar’s lower leg injury was season-ending.
Penn State had already been on a downward spiral in the weeks leading up to Allar’s injury. After being ranked top-3 during the first month of the season, the Nittany Lions have lost three straight games to fall completely out of the AP Top 25 list.
Through six games this season, Allar has thrown for 1,100 yards with 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He entered the season as a dark horse candidate to contend for the Heisman Trophy, and looked the part up until Penn State’s embarrassing loss to a winless UCLA squad.
Franklin’s seat was already getting hot before Allar’s injury and the team’s third-straight defeat. The thermostat went up even higher after Saturday’s game.
