Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has underscored the need for residents of the Bono East Region to remain united and preserve the peace prevailing in the area, describing peace as a critical tool for accelerating development.
According to him, sustained peace creates the enabling environment for socio-economic growth, effective policy implementation and the empowerment of human resources to drive economic development.
Mr Asiedu Nketia made the call during his “thank you tour” of the Bono East Region to express the party’s appreciation to the people and traditional authorities for the overwhelming support given to the NDC in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking at Yeji, where he met party faithful, supporters, chiefs and residents, he noted that peace has the capacity to attract development initiatives and ensure the successful rollout of policies and programmes aimed at improving the living conditions of the people.
He cautioned against conflicts, reminding residents of their devastating consequences and urging all stakeholders to continue working together to maintain harmony in the region.
Touching on the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections, Mr Asiedu Nketiah said no political party in Ghana’s history since 1992 had recorded such an electoral success, stressing that it was now the party’s responsibility to deliver on its campaign promises.
He outlined key flagship programmes to be implemented by the government, including the National Apprenticeship Programme, the 24-hour economy policy, Feed Ghana and the “Nkoko Nkitinkiti” initiative, all aimed at empowering citizens economically.
At separate engagements in the Kintampo North and South municipalities, the NDC Chairman reiterated the government’s readiness to introduce additional social intervention programmes to strengthen livelihoods across the region.
Addressing party members in the Techiman South Constituency, Mr Nketia assured residents of the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure and expanding access to quality social amenities such as healthcare and education to enhance overall well-being.
The Bono East Regional Chairman of the NDC, Mr Unas Owusu, commended the government for its commitment to fulfilling campaign promises, expressing optimism that the flagship programmes being rolled out would address the needs of the people.
He noted that as an agriculturally dominated region, Bono East stood to benefit significantly from the Feed Ghana programme, which he said would empower farmers to increase the production of food and cash crops for both local consumption and export.
Mr Owusu urged residents to continue supporting government policies and initiatives to enable the administration to implement more development projects in the region.
Asiedu Nketia was accompanied on the tour by the NDC National Treasurer, Mr Alex Kyeremeh, and the party’s National Logistics Officer, Alhaji Mohammed Doku.
The tour also took the party leadership to Sene West, Pru East and West, Atebubu-Amantin, Kintampo North and South, Nkoranza North and South, as well as Techiman North and South.
