THE Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) has added its voice to growing support for the Konektadong Pinoy (Open Access in Data Transmission) Act.
“By opening the sector to more qualified providers and encouraging healthy competition, this law will bring much-needed investments in digital infrastructure and expand internet access, especially in underserved and remote communities,” PCCI president Enunina Mangio said in a statement on Sunday.
The bill will streamline processes and eliminate outdated barriers that have long hindered the entry of new players into the internet service market, Mangio added, noting this will give consumers greater choices and better quality services.
However, the chamber pointed out that the bill’s implementing rules and regulations (IRR) must be crafted with transparency and foresight, while the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) must be given full authority to enforce strong oversight, with clear criteria for approving and monitoring service providers.
“Open access must not come at the cost of our national security or the integrity of our critical digital infrastructure,” the PCCI said.

Earlier this month, the Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) said the bill will help build a more competitive and consumer-centric digital economy.
Likewise, the Financial Executive Institute of the Philippines (Finex) agreed the bill will improve internet access among underserved rural areas and send signals to global technology firms and hyperscalers looking to expand in Southeast Asia.
