Paxos, a prominent blockchain and digital asset solutions provider, has settled compliance issues with the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) according to a recent statement. The resolution involves a monetary penalty of $26.5 million, addressing historical compliance matters linked to Paxos’ previous partnership with Binance.
The compliance issues in question were identified over two and a half years ago and have since been fully addressed by Paxos. The company emphasized that these issues caused no harm to customer accounts or consumers. The settlement marks the closure of this matter, allowing Paxos to move forward from these historical concerns.
Paxos had previously received approval from the NYDFS to issue the BUSD stablecoin. In early 2023, upon receiving an order to cease minting the token, Paxos successfully reduced the BUSD market cap by more than $16 billion without the token losing its peg, demonstrating robust treasury management capabilities. Paxos clarified that there are no new claims concerning its relationship with Binance or the issuance of BUSD, and other white-labeled stablecoins issued by Paxos have not encountered regulatory challenges.
