LAWTON, Okla. (KSWO) – The Lawton Farmers Market hosted an event on Thursday for veterans looking for a new job.
The “Patriot Hiring Event” took place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
There, veterans and community members were able to connect with area businesses and do on-site interviews. Organizers say this was a perfect chance for them to give back to those who served our community and nation.
We also spoke with an attendee at the event, who is looking for a new career path as he reaches the end of his military service.
“It can be kind of daunting a little bit, you know,” said Adam Rodgerson. “You do something for a very long time, and then you’re faced with the prospect of finding something else to do after 20 years. It is kind of a really daunting experience. Sometimes it’s kind of one of those, like very threatening sometimes, because you don’t know what you’re going to do or where you’re going to be, and so something like this really benefits military individuals because it kind of gives you, like, options.”
In addition to connecting with employers, attendees also got to enjoy a number of food trucks that were available for the event.
The event was put on through efforts from South Central Workforce Board, Oklahoma Employment Security Commission, Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Oklahoma Rehabilitation Services, Lawton Area Transit System and Lawton Public Library.
