In a significant shift in leadership, Manish Sharma, the Chairman of Panasonic Life Solutions India (PLSIND), has stepped down after over ten years of guiding the Japanese electronics giant’s operations in India through notable growth, restructuring, and the expansion of local manufacturing.
As stated by the company, Sharma will remain available to assist the organization during this transition phase, while Tadashi Chiba, the Managing Director and CEO of Panasonic Life Solutions India, will continue to manage operations within the country.
“Sharma has played a crucial role in defining Panasonic’s business strategy, growth path, and organizational culture in India,” the company noted in an official announcement.
🏭 Over A Decade Of Leadership
Sharma began his journey with Panasonic in 2008 as the Head of Marketing for Consumer Electronics and Home Appliances. He advanced to the position of MD & CEO in 2012, became a member of the Executive Committee of Panasonic Corporation in 2016, and took on the role of Chairman of Panasonic Life Solutions India in 2021.

📉 Panasonic’s Restructuring & Challenges
Earlier this year, Panasonic revealed its decision to withdraw from the refrigerator and washing machine markets in India as part of a global realignment strategy, following difficulties with losses and a small market share in both sectors.
Even with these departures, Panasonic Life Solutions — a consolidated entity that includes Panasonic India, Anchor Electricals, Panasonic Energy, and Panasonic Carbon — continues to be a significant player in India’s appliance and consumer electronics industry.
Industry experts suggest that Sharma’s resignation occurs at a pivotal moment when the company is reassessing its strategy in India amidst global challenges, such as tariffs and disruptions in the supply chain.
🎓 A Career Built On Consumer Electronics
A graduate of the Bhilai Institute of Technology, Sharma started his career at LG Electronics India before moving to Haier India. His two-decade-long journey through leading appliance companies has established him as one of the most esteemed figures in India’s consumer electronics sector.
During a recent company town hall, Sharma shared his decision in front of Masahiro Shinada, Head of Panasonic’s global appliances division.
