GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – The Palisade Bulldogs Football Team punched their ticket to the postseason, after finishing the regular season as one of the hottest teams in the state.
The Bulldogs went 8-2, with six consecutive wins and went undefeated in all five road games this season and finished undefeated in league play for the second consecutive year.
“I feel like we’re at a good spot. I think overall we’ve been playing pretty well in these last couple games,” Quarterback Branson Springer said, “And I think obviously we’ve had some good wins, but we’re also hoping to learn from those a lot, making sure that we’re always getting better each week.”
Palisade has defended their league titles with undefeated league records in back to back seasons.
“So I think everybody’s came closer as like a brotherhood and just really understanding what they’re doing and they’re 1% that they need to do to make us better and play at our best,” Center Gavin Poole said.
“Just being surrounded by all like the team wise, I mean like sometimes it can start a little rough, but just as we get going, like we just get the momentum going and as the year goes on, we just get closer and closer and everyone starts to enjoy it and love the grind and just love the game of football, too,” Tackle Todd Nordenson said.
Palisade will face the Timnath Cubs in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs Saturday at 1:00 P.M. at Stocker Stadium.
“Expecting a big physical team. Those Front Range guys, they get after it every single play. Their effort is always amazing,I love playing against that competition because that’s really where the bread and butter of, especially in Colorado, that’s where your good teams are. And we love playing those kinds of teams. And it’s definitely a big advantage playing at home. But expecting complex defense, obviously, and just great schemes and amazing effort. They’re great players,” Springer said.
The winner between the Bulldogs and Cubs will advance to play either Roosevelt or Pueblo County in the second round.
