
In a private job fair conducted, on Saturday (January 24, 2026), by the district employment and career guidance centre, a total of 1,618 people secured job opportunities.
The private job fair was conducted under the Tamil Nadu State Urban Livelihood Mission and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY) skill development scheme, at a private college premises in Junction Main Road, for men and women under the age of 45. Candidates who completed class VII to graduation and technical education participated with their education certificates, copies of their ration card and Aadhaar card. Private companies such as Tata Electronics, TVS Motors Limited, and MRF Tyres took part in the fair.
A total of 176 private companies participated in the fair and conducted interviews for the candidates. Likewise, 7,261 job seekers, including 3,746 men, 3,483 women and 32 differently-abled, took part. Of those, 1,618 candidates (979 men, 628 women, 11 differently-abled) were recruited. Likewise, 239 candidates (137 men and 102 women) were shortlisted for interviews for the second phase. Four companies that provide skill development participated and 19 candidates registered through the job fair.
Salem zone joint director (employment) P. Kavitha distributed appointment orders for the selected candidates. Officials from departments concerned also participated.
