Amanda Owen has confessed she has concerns about her children after revealing they participate in a rather “extreme” pastime. The Our Yorkshire Farm celebrity resides with her big family at the isolated 2,000-acre Ravenseat Farm in Swaledale, Yorkshire, which has featured in two reality programmes.
A mother to nine children – Raven, Reuben, Miles, Edith, Violet, Sidney, Annas, Clementine, and Nancy – with her former spouse, Clive, the Channel 4 personality has now disclosed details about the distinctive childhood her offspring experience.
In a disclosure that would terrify most parents, Amanda disclosed that several of her children have embraced what they’ve termed “extreme hide and seek”.
She explained their vast residence offers numerous climbing opportunities and they’ve “even got a cave”. Amanda revealed her youngsters informed her they’d “been caving”, to which she replied that’s “fantastic”.
She remarked it’s an “absolute joy” to provide her children with “that freedom”, observing that the family feels “blessed” having such extensive space surrounding them.
Nevertheless, when questioned whether she worries about her children, especially given contemporary parenting approaches, she acknowledged she does, but one “can’t live your life being risk-averse”.
Amanda told the Darlington and Stockton Times: “Yeah, course I do. You want to keep your child safe, of course. But danger comes in many forms, whether it’s vehicles, fast-flowing rivers, things with teeth and hooves, or even through a small screen.
“Who knows where the danger’s coming from, but you can’t live your life being risk-averse, and I wouldn’t teach that or champion it. Just learn how to live your life and have a sense of practicality as well.”
She added that to “some degree”, we have to be “fearless” in life, pointing out that we need to be someone who take “steps forward” and not somebody who “shies away”.
This comes after reports emerged that Amanda has revealed some heartbreaking news from the family farm, turning to Instagram to express her anger about countryside vandalism.
She revealed that someone had “dug up and taken the flags” from the ground of some old pens situated on the Cumbria-Yorkshire border that had probably “stood here for centuries”.
Amanda has stressed that the location “has got history” and remains in active use by shepherds and farmers today, explaining how sheep are still housed there and they’re utilised for agricultural work.
Amanda continued: “But at some point over the last couple of days, somebody has taken it upon themselves to desecrate it, whether they had a job for these flags or whether they just got them because they thought nobody was using this place.”
You can next catch Amanda on Our Farm Next Door on Channel 4 this evening (Saturday, August 2) from 6.10pm to 7.10pm.
