Rachel O’Hare, originally from Wirral, died after falling from an apartment block
A coroner has ordered mental health trust bosses to provide a statement ahead of a full inquest hearing into the death of a mum-of-three.
Rachel O’Hare, originally from Wirral, died after falling from an apartment block in Manchester city centre. She was pronounced dead on Great Ancoats Street on Monday, June 30.
An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned by a coroner at Manchester Coroner’s Court on Tuesday morning (July 22). Area coroner Paul Appleton ordered Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust to provide a witness statement as to ‘any relevant contact, care and treatment’ Ms O’Hare received from the trust, the Manchester Evening News reports.
He also ordered a file of evidence from Greater Manchester Police and the results of a post-mortem examination and toxicology tests to be provided ahead of a full hearing. No date was set. Her death is not being treated by police as suspicious.
Ms O’Hare was an interior designer and co-founded a charity called Elle for Elle, which worked to help vulnerable women in refuges.
The aim was to support women in need with basic toiletries and beauty products, with the charity’s work said to have been praised in Westminster. According to Companies House, Elle for Elle was dissolved in 2022.
Mr Appleton read from a statement by police coroner’s officer Elizabeth Davies during the brief hearing. Born in Merseyside, the hearing was told Ms O’Hare died outside Victoria House on Great Ancoats Street, where she was living.
Her date of birth was given and she was described as a 49 year-old divorced interior designer who lived in a flat at Victoria House.
Mr Appleton said police attended the scene, but sadly Ms O’Hare had injuries ‘incompatible with life’.
She was identified by her passport, as well as clothing and jewellery she was wearing, the inquest opening heard, and a preliminary cause of death was given as ‘multiple traumatic injuries’.
An area around the Leonardo Hotel and Victoria House apartments on Great Ancoats Street was cordoned off, with a police scene in place after the incident. Emergency services were called to the scene at around 7am.
No further information was given at the hearing, which was adjourned. The coroner said further review hearings were likely.
