Met Eireann has issued a Status Orange rain and thunderstorm warning for Dublin.
The warning was issued by the national forecaster this evening and comes into place from midnight tonight until 2pm on Monday afternoon. The orange alert warns of persistent and heavy rain along with possible thunderstorms.
Potential impacts impacts include widespread surface flooding, very difficult travelling conditions, lightning damage and very poor visibility. According to Met Eireann’s latest forecast for the capital says persistent rain will continue after the Orange warning is lifted.
It will become drier towards the evening with highest temperatures of 16 to 18C. The national forecast for the remainder of the week promises more of a mixed bag with more rain on the way. Here’s what’s in store for the days ahead:
Tuesday
“Some drier and brighter intervals at first on Tuesday, away from Atlantic coasts, but showers will become fairly widespread from the west through the afternoon, some of them heavy. Highest temperatures of 16 to 19 degrees with light to moderate west to northwest winds.”
Wednesday
“Wednesday will bring a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. The showers will be less heavy than previous days and they will become isolated by evening. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees with light to moderate northwest breezes, fresh at times on windward coasts.”
Thursday
“Thursday will be a largely dry day overall with just the chance of a few light showers in the mix. It’ll be rather cloudy to begin, but it looks like it will brighten up later in the afternoon with sunny spells gradually developing. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees in mainly light westerly breezes.”
