Hulu is doubling down on its prestige programming with a new series making its way to the streaming service soon. The upcoming legal drama arrives as the first major project to emerge from a development deal between author Jack Jordan and 20th Television, and the series aligns perfectly with Hulu’s ongoing push for character-driven series featuring proven talent. Jordan’s multiyear deal with 20th Television also includes adaptations of his novels Redemption and Deception.
The upcoming drama is also The Good Doctor and House’s writer, David Shore’s first series greenlight under his 20th Television overall deal. According to a news report, executives were eager for Shore to return to the legal genre, especially given his background as a practicing attorney. And interestingly, although the project had been in development for a while, the series order reportedly accelerated once Shore turned in the pilot script. Hulu then requested additional material, including an outline-style document for Episode 2, but instead of simply providing notes, Shore surprised executives by writing a full draft of the script.
The legal drama, titled Conviction, is now set to star Elisabeth Moss as Neve Harper, a confident criminal defense attorney who lands a career-making case involving a husband accused of murdering his wife by setting their home on fire. Moss will executive produce Conviction alongside Shore, Warren Littlefield, and Bert Salke. The project marks Moss and Littlefield’s third series for Hulu, following the critically acclaimed Emmy-winning dystopian show, The Handmaid’s Tale, and its upcoming sequel, The Testaments. A writer’s room for Conviction is expected to open in the next 10 days, with production slated to begin in June in New York.
Elisabeth Moss Supported Chase Infiniti While Filming ‘The Testaments’
Moss has continued to be a part of The Handmaid’s Tale franchise as the story prepares to enter its next chapter with The Testaments premiering on April 8, 2026. The sequel series takes place 15 years after the events of the original show and focuses on young women growing up inside Gilead’s brutal system. Chase Infiniti stars as Agnes, the abducted daughter of Moss’s character, June. Infiniti also recently had an interview with PEOPLE, where she revealed meeting Moss and that the veteran actress immediately made sure she felt supported.
The Testaments also stars Lucy Halliday and Rowan Blanchard in prominent roles, while Ann Dowd is set to reprise her role as Aunt Lydia. At the end of The Handmaid’s Tale, we saw Agnes continue to become indoctrinated into Gilead’s oppressive systems. The Testaments, therefore, will follow her as she struggles with her identity and seeks answers about her true background.
