I urge you to play one of Bethesda’s most intense first-person shooters for free on Xbox Game Pass if you haven’t already – and odds are that this release has passed under your radar, given that it’s not such a popular FPS game, despite its quality. The catalog for the gaming subscription service contains a large number of Bethesda’s games after the company was purchased by Microsoft. As such, members have been given access to titles developed by the company, including Doom: The Dark Ages’ release on Game Pass on day-one.
Other Bethesda games, such as Skyrim and Oblivion Remastered, can be enjoyed if you are a subscriber to the service. Even though there are large and notable titles like the aforementioned ones and the Fallout series, for example, Bethesda does have a few smaller titles, at least in terms of popularity. There are many Bethesda games on Xbox Game Pass to play, and there’s one underrated one I highly recommend to FPS fans.
Prey Is Free On Xbox Game Pass You Can Play The Shooter On Consoles & PC Close
One of the greatest yet undervalued Bethesda games, Prey, is available for free on Xbox Game Pass. The title has been available on the subscription service’s catalog since 2021, when the company’s games became part of Game Pass. For now, there is no indication that it will leave the catalog soon, even if there are titles that are removed every month.

Prey Is A Surprising Immersive Sim FPS Arkane’s Game Has A Branching Narrative
Developed by Arkane, the same creators of the Dishonored series, Prey is an immersive sim, meaning that you can make choices during the campaign, which will change the course of the narrative and the game’s ending. For fans of titles like Life is Strange and Detroit: Become Human, for example, the game somewhat follows that structure, but inserted within a first-person shooter gameplay loop.

I spent a few years avoiding the game under the impression that it was a horror game, only to learn that Bethesda made an effort to distance itself from the genre. The game still features the alien Typhon as a menacing presence, but overall it feels more like a traditional shooter with branching narrative rather than a horror game, per se – it’s a game with a slight touch of horror. If you haven’t, I highly recommend playing Prey for free on Xbox Game Pass.
