Legal action: provisional seizure, damages claims over false 3.6B won reports
[OSEN=Yeon Hwi-seon Reporter] Cha Gawon, chairman of Piark Group and representative of One Hundred, denied allegations of luxury shopping worth 3.6 billion Korean won and provisional seizure.
On the 20th, One Hundred’s side expressed an official statement regarding the report that emerged on the same day about Chairman Cha Gawon’s financial relations, stating, “The report contains content that differs from the facts, and we judge that it may infringe upon the honor and rights of our company and specific individuals.”
However, One Hundred’s side explained, “Considering that this matter is already closely related to legal procedures, we have refrained from making official statements until now,” and added, “Currently, our company is actively proceeding with legal measures, including civil claims for damages and criminal liability investigations related to this report.”
Additionally, they stated, “Legal procedures, such as the provisional seizure of real estate applied for against two individuals involved, have already commenced and are ongoing,” and explained, “YouTube videos related to this matter have been deleted from the platform after reports were filed stating that they contained false information and intentional attacks against specific individuals. Our company is also concurrently pursuing additional legal responses to clarify the facts regarding the circumstances and content of the entire report.”
One Hundred’s side added, “We believe it is more desirable for the facts and responsibility to be clearly determined through judicial procedures rather than engaging in individual debates over each report. In the future, we plan to announce our position through official press releases only to the extent necessary, depending on the court’s judgment and the progress of legal procedures.”
On the same day, a media outlet reported that the Seoul Western District Court seized Cha Gawon’s share in four units of a high-end villa in Hannam-dong, Seoul, which she and her husband jointly own, on the 9th. It was particularly shocking as the creditor was Hanwha Galleria Co., Ltd., which operates Galleria Department Store in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, with the claimed amount reaching approximately 3.6 billion Korean won.
