
Mr. & Mrs. P. Sweeney, of the Heights, received a postcard from the Rev. Cornelius Brennan, a native of town, who is now in Shanghai, China. Father Brennan is well and wishes to be remembered to all his friends.

Garry Rice of Tamaqua gave a flannelgraph talk, also sang a solo and along with his sister, Beverly, presented a vocal duet. Ralph Miller and son spent several days in Easton. Alvin Klemmer of Valley View called on friends.
A new cottage that will house 16 additional boys has been opened at the Pottsville Children’s home, the directors and managers of the Benevolent Association’s Home for Children have announced. Construction of the new building was made possible by a fund campaign held in 1971.
The Carmike Cinemas at Fairlane Village mall — known to many as the Fox Theater — is closed, leaving Schuylkill County with only two other operating theater sites. It was one of several movie theaters Carmike Cinemas Inc., Columbus, Ga., has closed in its struggles with bankruptcy. Kim R. Levkulic, general manager at Fairlane Village, wasn’t surprised when she heard the news. “Carmike has been in Chapter 11 bankruptcy for a couple of months now,” she said. “We’re obviously disappointed to learn that they closed this location. We hoped Carmike would remain open through the bankruptcy hearings and such, but they’ve chosen to close.”
