Oslo – Electric car sales in Norway surged to a record high in 2025. They accounted for the vast majority of new car registrations. The share of petrol and diesel cars fell to historic lows.
A statement from the Norwegian Road Council confirmed these figures. Electric vehicles represented 95.9% of total sales. This compares to 88.9% in 2024. Diesel’s share dropped to 1%. Petrol’s share was just 0.3%.
A total of 179,549 cars were registered. This is a 40% increase from the previous year. The highest electric car percentage was recorded in December. This reflects the impact of government policies. Tax incentives also contributed. Tesla accounted for a 19.1% market share.
