North Dubliners have rallied together to help a mum-of-two who is in critical condition in Tenerife.

Emma Hickey and her partner Stephen Brougham took their two kids to Costa Adeje in Tenerife on June 13. Just 10 days into the trip, the Kilbarrack mum-of-two experienced a “really bad case” of mosquito bites and was prescribed injections at a hospital.

The 42-year-old carer then “soldiered through the holiday” for the sake of her kids despite feeling unwell. But as they walked down the hotel staircase on their way to a pharmacy on June 23, Emma felt dizzy before collapsing suddenly and falling head-first onto a concrete step.

The Dubliner was immediately rushed to hospital where she was put into an induced coma. A hospital CT scan revealed the mum-of-two had a brain bleed and neck fractures.

Thankfully, Emma has made some progress and her family are hoping she will be able to return to Ireland soon. A GoFundMe has been set up to assist her family and has raised almost €60,000 at the time of writing.

On Tuesday evening, dozens of Emma’s family and friends gathered at Velvet Strand Portmarnock for a “Power of Positivity” event.

Speaking to Dublin Live at the gathering, Emma’s niece Meghan said: “Today we got some really positive news and she is starting to come around. We want to thank everyone for all of their prayers, healing and love that they’re sending Emma, Stephen and the kids.

“We just hope she comes home very, very soon.”

The Power of Positivity gathering was led by Tanya O’Shea, who used crystal bowls for sound healing. She told Dublin Live: “They’re nice and high vibrational so hopefully they’ll be heard well on the beach.

“It’s just to send a bit of light and healing to Emma and just do what we can with what we have.”
