The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Northern Nigeria has stressed the need to entrench lasting peace across Northern Nigeria for its development.

It’s Chairman, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, during a courtesy visit to Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya in Gombe, appealed to him to use his position as Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum to lead a coordinated regional drive that will ensure sustainable unity, bridge divides, and consolidate unity and peace the region.

He assured that if this is done, the region with its friendly atmosphere, will ensure a conducive atmosphere for its people and attract investors and development in the region.

Hayab then lauded the Governor for his purposeful and inclusive leadership style, saying that he has transformed Gombe and positioned the state as a model for peace-building and harmonious coexistence at a time when the region is grappling with deepening divisions and mistrust.

The chairman also lauded the Governor’s swift interventions during moments of crisis.

Hayab noted that Governor Yahaya stands out to lead urgent conversation and actions required to reclaim the shared values of unity, peace, and mutual respect.

He urged the Governor to rally his colleagues in the Forum towards a collective agenda for regional healing, reintegration and proposed the establishment of a North-wide peace and unity framework that will bring together traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth influencers, and public officials for regular dialogue and collaborative action for the peaceful coexistence of the region.

He stressed, “the future stability of the region depends on raising young people who will learn, grow, and work together without being defined or divided by religion or ethnicity, but instead bound by shared humanity and a common vision for progress.”
