Leading macro-economist and best-selling author Nomi Prins will deliver the keynote address at the 44th edition of Seafood Expo North America/Seafood Processing North America, taking place from 15 to 17 March, 2026 in Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.
Prins’s address, “Fork in the Current: The Economic and Trade Realities Shaping Seafood in 2026,” will cover how macro forces impacting trade – such as U.S.-China trade tensions, E.U. regulatory shifts, energy price volatility, AI integration, and more – will affect the seafood supply chain. Prins also delivered a keynote in 2025, predicting both headwinds and tailwinds for the seafood industry throughout 2025.
The keynote address will take place at 11 a.m. on 15 March, and kick off Seafood Expo North America’s comprehensive conference program, event organizer Diversified said. [Editor’s note: Diversified also owns and operates SeafoodSource.]
Several sessions during the conference program will cover sustainable and resilient seafood supply chains amid both trade uncertainty and shifting consumer demands that must contend with climate and regulatory pressure. FishWise, along with its collaborators in India, will highlight a community-led model in India’s shrimp sector designed to elevate small-scale farmers.
“The session showcases how locally driven collaboration can improve livelihoods, stabilize supply chains, and strengthen market resilience,” Diversified said.
Human rights due diligence will also be a subject of multiple presentations, and industry experts from AquaStar and Oxfam will lead a discussion on the evolving strategies addressing human rights due diligence in the seafood industry. Sea Pact will also facilitate a panel bringing together seafood, technology, and conservation groups to discuss how electronic monitoring can enhance traceability and transparency, creating value for the entire seafood supply chain.
The conference program will also cover AI tools, with sessions on the issues businesses must address before AI tools can be leveraged responsibly featuring experts across the technological, legal, and seafood sectors.
Seafood Expo North America’s conference program will again cover market trends, consumer insights, and category growth – with a NFI Sushi Council session unveiling its first comprehensive market analysis of U.S. sushi and the Boston Consulting Group hosting a session on growing demand for salmon in the U.S.
Another session will highlight must-knows in regulatory, enforcement, and trade compliance for the seafood industry, covering FDA detentions, CBP demands, Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP) requirements, and fraud prevention.
McKinley Research Group will present new data on processing costs, covering the differences between costs in China versus costs in Alaska and Washington. The session will also present strategies on how to strengthen U.S.-based processing viability.
Diversified said the conference program for the 44th Seafood Expo North America is still expanding, and additional sessions will be announced in the coming weeks.
