No region will be left behind in Nigeria’s development drive – FG

The Federal Government has assured that no region of the country would be left behind in its development efforts.

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who arrived in Enugu on Thursday to commence a two-day sensitisation and tour of ongoing and commissioned Federal Government projects in Enugu and Ebonyi states, stated that President Bola Tinubu’s policies are targeted at the growth and development of the country.

“The Tinubu administration is committed to ensuring that no region is left behind in Nigeria’s development drive,” said the minister.

He added that the dividends of reforms embarked on by the federal government were being felt in the various states with investments in roads, education, and health, among others.

“What we are seeing in Enugu – modern roads, upgraded schools, improved public facilities- is proof that President Tinubu’s policies are translating into real benefits for the people,” he said

The minister, while on a courtesy visit to Governor Peter Mbah, as part of activities lined up for the two-day Citizens’ Engagement Series and FG Projects Tour of the South East, said the state remained an important state in the South-East geopolitical zone and Nigeria as a whole.

He stated that the removal of fuel subsidy had freed up resources for both the federal and state governments to invest in critical infrastructure and social services.

“Governors across the country, including here in Enugu, are taking advantage of these additional resources to deliver impactful projects. We have seen the work Governor Peter Mbah is doing in education, infrastructure, security, and culture, and this is exactly what President Tinubu envisioned,” Idris said.

The minister commended Governor Mbah for sustaining and expanding development programmes, noting that the synergy between the federal and state governments is key to achieving lasting prosperity.

He disclosed that the delegation – comprising top officials from the National Orientation Agency, NTA, FRCN, NBC, and the Voice of Nigeria – would inspect projects in the state before holding an interactive session with residents to receive feedback on federal government policies.

Idris described Nigeria’s current economic path as challenging but promising.

“It’s like an aircraft that has taken off. The initial turbulence is giving way to stability. We are beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel,” he said, adding that Tinubu’s vision of a $1 trillion economy is already taking shape.

The minister also lauded Enugu’s growing role as a cultural and economic hub, citing upcoming national events scheduled for the state, including the Festival of Arts and Culture, as well as major power sector projects.

Responding, Governor Mbah attributed the financing of numerous infrastructure projects embarked on by the state government to the oil subsidy removal policy of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.

He said: “For us in Enugu, we are able to accomplish all we promised our people during the campaign, thanks to the bold decision taken by President Bola Tinubu, which has freed up resources needed to execute humongous capital projects.”

The governor listed ongoing projects in the state, which include the construction of 7,000 classrooms, 3,300 hospital beds, and 2,000 hectares of farmland across the 260 wards of the state.

Governor Mbah also pledged further support for the federal government’s policies, stating that they are in the best interest of the state’s people.
