Prosecutor closes probe after investigation found no evidence of criminal sexual offences by the Namasté theatre group
The Luxembourg public prosecutor has officially closed its investigation into the Namasté high school theatre group at the Lycée Hubert Clément in Esch-sur-Alzette, the office said on Monday in a press release.
The inquiry, which began in November 2024 following a report of alleged sexual misconduct that could “constitute criminal offences,” involved extensive investigative measures, the prosecutor said, including interviews with current and former students and staff.
In its statement, the prosecutor’s office clarified that, while some behaviours within the theatre group may have been “ethically questionable from a deontological or ethical point of view,” the investigation did not find evidence of criminal offenses, including sexual abuse, as initially reported.
“The criminal part of the case is now closed,” the statement reads, “and the Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office has decided to close the case without further action.”
The office also noted that this decision does not preclude possible disciplinary, administrative or civil proceedings by other competent authorities.
The education ministry in a statement following the public prosecutor’s note said that it does not intend to pursue disciplinary action against the people targeted by the investigation.
The Namasté theatre group’s activities had been suspended in late 2024 after the initial report.
