The defendants — Peter Obonyilo Enenche, Abraham Daniels, and Armstrong O. Amobi — are facing a three-count charge bordering on cybercrime, criminal defamation, and the forgery of court documents.

The Inspector-General of Police has dragged three men before the Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly using computer systems to spread false and insulting messages against the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Dr. Paul Enenche.

The defendants — Peter Obonyilo Enenche, Abraham Daniels, and Armstrong O. Amobi — are facing a three-count charge bordering on cybercrime, criminal defamation, and the forgery of court documents.

The defendants, Abraham Daniels and Peter Enenche, are a kinsman of Dunamis Church’s Senior Pastor Paul Enenche.

According to the charge sheet with number FHC/ABJ/CR/578/2025, the trio allegedly conspired in 2024 to send a message via a computer system targeted at the popular cleric.

The prosecution alleged that the defendants intentionally sent a message stating, “It Is Only Occultic Men Who Do Not Assist Their Relative” — a statement the police claim was false and designed to cause “annoyance, inconvenience, danger, insult, injury, criminal defamation, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety” to Pastor Paul Enenche and others.

The police stated that this act is punishable under Section 24(b) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, ETC) Act 2015, as amended in 2024.

In the second count, the defendants were accused of using “words reproduced by mechanical means” to publish imputations against the Pastor with the intent to harm his reputation. This charge falls under Section 392 of the Penal Code Act 2004.

Furthermore, the first defendant, Peter Obonyilo Enenche, is facing a third count for allegedly forging a document during his bail application before the FCT High Court in 2025.

The prosecution alleged that Enenche “made false document knowing it to be false” with the intent that it be acted upon as genuine, an offense contrary to Section 2(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.

The charge was signed by prosecuting counsel Eristo Asaph, Esq., and Theophilus Silas, Esq., from the Directorate of Legal Services, Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.

Pastor Paul Enenche, one of Nigeria’s most influential Pentecostal leaders, has recently been at the center of various social media controversies.

This legal move by the police highlights the increasing use of the Cybercrime Act to prosecute individuals for digital statements deemed defamatory or insulting to high-profile figures.

The court is expected to fix a date for the formal arraignment of the three defendants.

In June 2025, SaharaReporters reported that Chief Magistrate Emmanuel A. Iyanna of a Wuse Zone 6 Magistrate Court of Federal Capital Territory in Abuja ordered the surety of Obonyilo Enenche Peter popularly known as ‘Enenche Enenche’ to show cause why he should not forfeit the bail bond or be committed to prison over Enenche’s absence in court.

The order was made at the resumed trial following an application by the prosecution counsel, Chima Chukwu, in a defamation case filed by Pastor Paul Enenche against Peter Enenche and Ex-Dunamis Pastor, Abraham Daniel.

The Inspector General of Police prosecuted them on behalf of Paul Enenche before an Wuse Zone 6 Magistrate Court over allegations of criminal defamation against Pastor Paul Enenchehe.

The defense counsel, Dr. S. M. Oyeghe, had in his submission objected to the application, arguing that the procedure adopted by the court offends the due process of law.

Oyeghe contended that the bail of the first defendant had already been revoked and a warrant for his arrest issued, and it was the duty of the prosecution to account for his whereabouts, not the surety any longer.

SaharaReporters’ reports that despite the objection, Magistrate Iyanna, who had been involved in so many controversial cases, of which so many led to his demotion, ordered the surety to show cause why the bail bond should not be forfeited.

Thereafter, he adjourned the matter to July 29, 2025, for hearing, where the complainants, Pastor Paul Enenche and Paul Adama, might testify.

Prior to the court’s order, the defendants had filed two separate petitions against Magistrate Iyanna, alleging abuse of power and judicial compromise to the Chief Judge of Federal Capital Territory.

The defendants also filed a motion for the magistrate’s recusal, citing his apparent bias and affinity with the nominal complainant, Pastor Paul Enenche. However, the motion was refused, while the prosecution’s motion for the revocation of the first defendant’s bail was granted.

SaharaReporters’ had reported the Prosecution had on March 21, filed a Motion for the revocation of the bail of the 1st defendant (Peter Enenche). The police had accused him of granting press releases and writing petitions against the Magistrate for bias in the case.

However, at the last sitting on May 28, Magistrate Iyanna had revoked the bail of the 1st Defendant, Oboyinlo Enenche Peter for violating the condition of his bail.

In his ruling, Magistrate Iyanna had held that the bail terms and conditions as stated in the grant of bail are an order of the court, and court orders must be fully obeyed and in the manner prescribed by the court.
