August 12, (THEWILL) — The Managing Director of Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority (LBRBDA), Engr Terese Ninga, has advocated for farming support law in the country to regulate government intervention in the agricultural sector for effective service delivery.

Engr Ninga, who spoke in Makurdi on Tuesday, argued that when established, such law will define government and farmer relationship in the supply of inputs, machines and other support in the agricultural ecosystem.

According to him, there are various laws regulating other sectors of the economy but in agriculture, none existed, noting that half hazard activities in the sector often lead to lack of development.

The LBRBDA Managing Director suggested the need for the government to think with the law establishing the River Basins across the country to enhance service delivery, stressing the need for the authorities to be adequately equipped for it to carryout it statutory functions.

Speaking further, Ninga disclosed that Lower Benue was working in collaboration with the Benue State government in the area of land clearing and development for the smooth farming process, especially in rice production in the state.

The immediate past Director General, Bureau of Agriculture in Benue State, therefore, commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for appointing him to serve in that capacity and for recommending for the position of LBRBDA, which president Bola Tinubu had approved his appointment.

While thanking president Tinubu for the opportunity to contribute his quota in the development of the country, he called on Benue people to remain steadfast in supporting Government policies and programmes for the benefits of all.

In a related development, Engr Ninga has presented himself to Sankera Traditional Council (STC), informing them of the new position of Managing Director of Lower Benue Rural Basin Development Authority approved by president Bola Tinubu.

Citing a Tiv adage that emphasises gratitude and responsibility, Engr Ninga, stated, “I have to bring back home the meat I killed in the course of hunting expedition”, he stated.

According to him, Lower Benue Region comprises of four states including Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau and Kogi, as area of coverage, calling on the traditional rulers to bless him with wisdom to deliver on the job.

In their separate remarks, District Heads, the Ter Ukum, Katsina-Ala, and Logo, all expressed their gratitude for Engr. Ninga’s dedication to his constituents, and urged him to leverage his influence to encourage both President Tinubu and Governor Alia to intensify initiatives in addressing security challenges in the area.

They also called for the execution of key projects under the Authority to ensure a lasting legacy that could propel him to further government roles.

The paramount of Sankera, Chief David Sev-Av, extolled Engr. Ninga’s wisdom and the blessings that follow such leadership, urging him to act in accordance with divine guidance and ensure all projects and proposals aimed at enhancing the community’s well-being are effectively implemented.

Chief Sev-Av also acknowledged Ninga as the first son of Sankera Constituency to be so appointed, and expressed confident that his promotion and achievements would be met with abundant blessings.
