Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger state has expressed delight over the commencement of Medicine, Pharmacy and Law Faculties at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai (IBBU).
He assured of adequate funding to transform the institution into a world class centre of excellence in the country.
Addressing the management of the university at a retreat in Minna, the governor stated that the university has been working in tandem with government vision to develop human and material resources in the country.
He said: “With the commencement of courses like Medicine, Pharmaceutical sciences and Law, the university has endeared itself to the heart of the state government and other stakeholders.”
Represented by the permanent secretary of the state Ministry of Tertiary Education, Sirajo Sai’d, the governor stated that government policies on university education are based on a broader framework of federal government’s policies.
“The establishment of the IBB University, Lapai, 20 years ago, was envisaged to be a transformation of human and material resources of the state for development purposes. Today access to university education in the state has expanded with hasty but slow moves,” he said.
He added that the government is committed to adequate funding of the university, adding that the Endowment Fund Board of Trustees of the university headed by former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, will soon be reconstituted.
