Nicola Peltz dress riddle finally solved and other claims debunked – The Mirror

Brooklyn Beckham made a number of claims against his parents in his bombshell statement on Instagram last week, but here we take a look at some of the allegations and why they are being questioned

As the fallout from Brooklyn Beckham’s public outburst continues, several long-running claims about his relationship with his parents – and their alleged treatment of his wife Nicola Peltz are being re-examined.

From the infamous wedding dress saga to accusations of inappropriate dancing and trademark disputes, fans of the Beckhams were left in shock at the claims made by the 26-year-old. Reports of a feud first began doing the rounds in the leadup to their 2022 wedding.

While it was reported that Nicola Peltz was the one who pulled the plug on wearing a wedding dress designed by Victoria Beckham, Brooklyn has disputed these claims in his latest bombshell statement, insisting it was actually his mum who left Nicola needing a new dress “in the eleventh hour”. Here’s what we now know from his Instagram statement.

The wedding dress

One of the most persistent disagreements has been Nicola’s wedding dress – with Brooklyn claiming his mother, Victoria Beckham, “cancelled making Nicola’s dress despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress.”

But in a resurfaced clip from an interview with Elle, Nicola called designing her dress with designer Valentino. She called the entire process “a dream”, detailing that she and her whole family headed to the holy city for the occasion. “My favourite outfit I’ve ever worn is my wedding dress. I got to go to Rome, and design it with everyone at Valentino; it was just a dream.”

Fans have speculated how Victoria cancelled making the dress in the “eleventh hour” if Nicola’s original account was accurate, given she spent a year designing the dress. However, it’s likely she had multiple dresses for the occasion.

Some have claimed that Nicola never intended for Victoria to design her primary wedding gown. Instead, she had hoped Victoria might create one of her additional dresses – often worn later in the celebrations. According to those familiar with the situation, Victoria declined because of time constraints, not personal animosity.

The ‘sexy dance’ accusation

One of the most shocking claims gaining traction centres on Brooklyn’s allegation that Victoria danced “very inappropriately” with him at the wedding.

A guest told the Mirror: “It did rather feel like the Beckham show. Marc Anthony had been praising Victoria in between songs, and then you had her go up on the dance floor for this moment. It was a bit much, and Nicola didn’t appear happy.”

But those close to Victoria, 51, insist she was just “a tad tipsy and having fun” during the mother and son dance. A friend told The Sun: “There was absolutely no malice there; quite the opposite. This has utterly broken her.”

The ‘first dance’ confusion

Perhaps the most emotionally charged claim is Brooklyn’s assertion that Victoria “hijacked” his and Nicola’s first dance.

However, multiple sources say the couple had already shared their actual first dance earlier in the evening, in private, hours before the moment Brooklyn later described. Nicola herself has previously indicated in interviews that there were multiple dances throughout the night.

“The truth is that, for some reason, it seemed on the day that neither Nicola nor her parents wanted Brooklyn to dance with his mother,” a source told the Daily Mail. “It was strange, especially because Nicola danced with her dad Nelson. He and David also did speeches.”

Another source added: “Brooklyn and Nicola had their first dance earlier in the evening. There was a band playing and it was all romantic and beautiful. Then it was time for Nicola to dance with her father. After that, there was a disco, and only then did Victoria and Brooklyn dance together. It was hours after the first dance.”

Vogue, who covered their wedding exclusively, said the couple had shared their first dance to South African singer Lloyiso’s rendition of Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling in Love. But in Brooklyn’s statement, he claimed Victoria “hijacked” his first dance that had been planned “weeks in advance”.

The trademark dispute

Brooklyn said that Victoria and David “repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name” before his wedding.

He claimed his holdout “affected the payday” and his parents have “never treated me the same since”. It’s since been revealed that Victoria had owned the brand name Brooklyn Beckham since December 2016, according to Intellectual Property Office documents obtained by the Times.

A source told People that the situation is a “misunderstanding,” and that the fashion designer sought the trademarks when all of her children were underage and unable to file for themselves, adding: “Of course, a parent or adult would make the original filing if the person were a child at the point they needed to register, but Brooklyn and his brothers, who are now all over 18, own their trademarks and Brooklyn manages his with his own team”.

While a trademark may be incredibly lucrative, for Brooklyn, whose whole identity is tied up in Brand Beckham, it appears to be far more personal than financial gain. His early exposure was often framed as wholesome and aspirational – a tight-knit, loving family navigating fame together.

But as he grew older, he began carving out his own public identity, moving between careers in photography, cooking and fashion, all under intense scrutiny. In recent years, Brooklyn has appeared to push back against the family narrative that once defined him, choosing to live in the US with his wife and increasingly distancing himself from the public image long associated with his parents.

Did the family dislike Nicola?

Claims that David and Victoria never liked Nicola have also been challenged.

People close to the family insist Nicola was warmly welcomed at first, with tensions only emerging later. According to those sources, concerns arose over repeated disagreements whenever Brooklyn was due to spend time with his family, with Nicola perceived as frequently unhappy or confrontational around those moments.

Some insiders describe her as “spoiled” and say that minor issues often escalated into larger conflicts. The couple were said to have missed David Beckham’s 50th birthday party after she became upset over Brooklyn’s ex – Kim Turnbull – being invited to the bash.

Brooklyn’s statement claimed his parents had been “endlessly trying to ruin” his relationship with Nicola since before the wedding.
