Shortly after the Dallas Cowboys announced the death of defensive end Marshawn Kneeland at the age of 24 on Thursday, reactions from around the NFL to the tragic news came pouring in on social media.
Cowboys safety Juanyeh Thomas posted about his heavy emotions on X.
Wide receiver and kick returner KaVontae Turpin posted a picture of Kneeland on his Instagram story with the caption, “Love you kid”.
Sam Williams, who played alongside Kneeland on the defensive line, also posted an Instagram story, writing #LLYou.
Kneeland’s agent Jonathan Perzley posted a statement on Instagram that was circulated on X.
Members from the athletic department at Kneeland’s alma mater of Western Michigan, provided heartfelt statements, including from former coach Lance Taylor.
The NFLPA posted some advice for grieving teammates and other NFL players.
Former Cowboys defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer reflected on his time working with Kneeland. “He was a great person, eager to learn…wanted to be great,” Zimmer wrote in a note to NFL Network reporter Jane Slater, which she shared on social media.
NFL reporter Jordan Schultz posted a clip of Kneeland recovering a blocked punt for a touchdown in Monday night’s game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Corbin Smith, a Seattle Seahawks reporter, shared some fond memories of an interview with Kneeland during the NFL Combine from several years ago.
Kneeland was a Western Michigan grad and Grand Rapids, Michigan native.
